Coupon Update

Just an update on the coupon clipping... I've clipped and saved lots of coupons.  Yet haven't been grocery shopping since before I attended the coupon class...

Reason #1:   I seceretly hate grocery shopping!
Reason #2:   We are broke!
Reason #3:   I need to organize said coupons and make a list!

Those and the lack of motivation.  No one is starving in our house, and if we have to eat chicken tenders, eggo waffles, and eggs for dinner every night, then so be it!

On a good note, we are in pretty good position to having our tax stuff together, 1099's done (all 2 of them) a day ahead of the deadline.  Keeping my fingers crossed for a refund this year!

Kendyl started basketball, Mark is coaching... one practice down, 6 more weeks to go!  I think this will be a great bonding experience for the both of them.

Aspyn starts gymnastics a week from Monday.  She is very excited.  Although I think she wants to be a tap dancer, she dances around in tap shoes and Kendyl's old dance outfits daily!

I am attending an insurance meeting mid-February in Portland.  It's usually full of information of no interest to anyone, unless you are into Health Insurance Premiums and Property Liability Insurance for cities in Oregon.  But they do serve delicious food!

Mark is keeping busy, hoping to button up his current job and move onto another, and of course coaching Kendyl's basketball team!

Happy February!!

Coupons, Coupons, Coupons...

I attended my first "coupon-class" last night.  What a fun class!  I spent the evening (two hours of it) with ladies ranging from 30 to 60 years of age, all SUPER excited about saving money on everyday items.  The lady teaching the class literally gets tons of stuff for free, from SAFEWAY and ALBERTSONS of all places.

I learned how to clip, double, watch for ads, study sale trends etc... who knew there was so much to clipping coupons.  I just started (a few months ago) being more frugal while grocery shopping, has it paid off?  No not yet, but it will, I am sure of it!  It was nice to know I am not doing it wrong, I'm just not getting the most out of my coupons...  For instance, I get happy when I only pay $1.50 for a box of cereal... come to find out, I could of only spent 0.25 for that same box of cereal!  I got ripped off!

I'll let you know how I do in the months to come!  My plan is to start cutting our grocery bill in half, if not more as I become better at this process.

If anyone has any coupon saving strategies please let me know!

Forgetful Tooth Fairy

Once again Kendyl lost ANOTHER tooth... Once again the Tooth Fairy forgot... how does this happen one asks?

In November Kendyl lost the second of her "TWO FRONT TEETH"  the Tooth Fairy was so busy getting ready to travel to Spokane for Thanksgiving that she FORGOT to come... one disappointed 6 year old!  So, we packed the tooth pillow, left the fairy a note saying that we'd be at Aunt Shelleys for the holiday and to please visit us there... you see the Tooth Fairy is like Santa Claus, she/he always knows where we will be, it just that sometimes she/he gets confused on date and times and when we will be here or there .... or falls asleep... you know how it goes.

The other day, she lost yet another tooth, the bottom one this time.  We let it soak in salt water for the day, forgot to put it in the tooth pillow, so you know the Tooth Fairy couldn't find it that night... so the next night we were sure to put the tooth in the pillow where it belongs so the Tooth Fairy could find it this time.  NOPE she didn't come... what a bummer I said, that darn Tooth Fairy must not be able to fly in the wind... and it did snow so it was probably too cold for her.  We'll try it again tonight Kendyl, I assured her the fairy would come.  She in return told me that the Tooth Fairy must think she is too old, and has forgotten about her... tears rolling down her little face, such disappointment... do I tell her about the Tooth Fairy, do I tell her that she really isn't real, do I really want to ruin her day... she's only lost 4 teeth, it's too soon... We check the pillow once more to make sure the tooth is accessible to the fairy and hang it back on the hook by the window and wait all day and all night...

This morning she remembered to check her pillow... a $2 bill was waiting for her... the Tooth Fairy didn't forget, the Tooth Fairy does remember her and doesn't think she it too old ... all is right in the world of KENDYL today... although she wonders how such a tiny fairy can carry such a big bill, and why if a $2 bill is so special that only Tooth Fairy's carry them, then why did I give her one months ago from my wallet (We are talking months and months ago)!  I had no answer time to brush those teeth and get ready for school... dilemma diverted for now.

First & Second Accidents of the Year

It only took {one} week into the new year....

First Mark hit his head pretty hard at work, OUCH!  That laid him out for about 3 days, I think he had a minor concussion, but of course he refused any kind of doctor appointments... so Tylenol and rest in the dark basement seemed to help.  Thankfully he is better and back to work... all is good in the life of MARK now.

Second, I got a call from the daycare on Wednesday afternoon, Aspyn had managed to stick her finger into a kaleidoscope, and yes, get it stuck.  I picked her up and brought her home, so Mark could help me break the thing off of her finger... well China uses pliable plastic on all the cheap toys they produce, so no such luck in shattering the plastic.  He ended up popping the lens off the end of the kaleidoscope, and I had to cut slits into the body of the thing, use nail clippers to snip away at the rest of it and finally relieve the poor thumb from the kaleidoscope... it took about and hour and a half to get it off... Poor Aspyn!  She was a trooper and was fine about 10 seconds after all was said and done... but I couldn't resist taking a picture of  the sad, sad face of our 3 year old...

New Years 2011

Well... it's 2011!  I keep telling myself I am going to document our life and the happenings of our day to day adventures... writing a blog was not something I thought of until everyone else seemed to be doing it, so why not!

Mark and I started the year off by leaving the kids with my aunt for a night.  A much needed night out for the both of us.  Neil happened to be turning 30 over the weekend, so it was a perfect excuse to have a date night!  We headed to Pullman/Moscow for dinner and drinks.

We left Hermiston at 3:30 on Friday and were home by 1:30 the next day, not quite 24 hours, but it was just enough time to have some "adult" time.

The girls seemed to have a fun time with Aunt Tami and suggested they get to stay over again soon... we haven't cleared that with Tami and her family yet, but maybe, just maybe they might let us escape again!  Thank you Sparks Family!!
